I emphasize the principles of simplicity, efficiency,
and accessibility in both my web design and technology
teaching. My mission is to create the highest impact with the
least amount of complexity and effort. Web Design
In designing web sites, this translates to a clean and simple design
that maximizes the elements of symmetry and contrast. Due to the
ease of access to a seemingly limitless number of web pages found in
search engines, users need to find what they are looking for within
the first few seconds of arriving at a site, or they will click away.
An effective web site balances
organization of information with visual interest and appeal.
I believe that the Internet is a powerful tool for transfer of
information as well as asymmetrical communication. When elements
of design are used sparingly to captivate, maintain interest, and
highlight important information, information and ideas are able to
convey freely and efficiently.
Training
Similarly, these principles apply to computer learning.
Foremost in importance is a clear and measurable learning objective
that helps to keep learning focused and determine success at the end
of the period of training.
I then construct learning activities designed to focus on one skill
or concept at a time, with plenty of opportunities for practice,
exploration, and mistakes. I also recognize the diversity in
areas of experience and abilities, as well as a variety of learning
styles and preferences.
When learners are equipped with experience, resources, and access
to a knowledgeable and patient professional, learning becomes
concrete.
